Behind The Scene

At Team Athey & Remarkable Property Management, we know sometimes you need to get outdoors and kick your heels up. Especially since air travel has been somewhat restricted in the past year. Yet things are starting to open up a little in the Lone Star State. So why not take a few short (or long road) trips to some of the world’s
most famous destinations right here in Texas, including Paris, Italy, Scotland and Praha (Czech spelling of Prague) just to name a few.

Imagine how continental you’ll feel saying, “Yes, darling. We’re taking a short hop over to Athens (the “Black-Eyed Pea Capitol of the World”) for some sightseeing and boating on the lake.” Afterwards, you could make a short trek over to New York, Texas* for some ZipLine fun. It’s only 11 miles east of Athens.

But don’t stop there, Athens, Texas isn’t that far from Paris, Texas in the big scheme of things. With just a leisurely 1 hour 50 minute drive, you could dine and go antique shopping in the City of Love. Don’t forget to take a selfie with the 64 foot Eiffel Tower replica that has a big red cowboy hat on it. You’ll want to post it on Facebook for external validation.

Honestly, Team Athey wishes we were better at songwriting because we have a long list of places named after other countries and cities in Texas. But since we can’t seem to make them rhyme, we’re just going to list them all right here . . . and we’re not going to do it any particular order. You can sing them to yourself if you want.

Sudan, Turkey, Tokio, Trinidad, Carthage, Troy, Bogota, Buda, Liverpool, Milano, Odessa, Roma, Weimar, New London, Nazareth, Naples, New Berlin, Milano, Palestine, Canadian, Odessa, Edinburgh, Dublin, Harlingen, and New Braunfels.

Oh yes, New Braunfels! That’s a good one for a day trip. From the Gruene Historic to Landa Park to floating down the Comal River, this hot spot has something for all ages, including the always fun Schlitterbahn Waterpark.

We could go on and on about places near and far in Texas. But why don’t you check them out for yourself. Sometimes all you need is a quiet bed and breakfast (Liverpool, Texas) or a really good fishing hole (Lake Palestine). Whatever you’re looking for . . . just look around your own backyard . . . because Texas has a world of things for you to do when you can only afford a short staycation getaway.

I’m Suzanne Athey, the founder of Team Athey & Remarkable Property Management. I hope you’ve enjoyed this blog post. * Note: New York, Texas is an unincorporated community in Henderson County, Texas, located 11 miles east of Athens.
